Washington, April 25 (NationPress) The US condemned the appalling terrorist attack that occurred in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday and reaffirmed its support for India.
However, it did not directly attribute responsibility to Pakistan but is keeping a vigilant eye on the evolving situation.
"The US stands united with India and categorically condemns all forms of terrorism," stated Tammy Bruce, the US State Department Spokesperson, during a news briefing, echoing sentiments expressed by President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
"We extend our prayers for the souls lost and for the swift recovery of the injured, urging that those responsible for this atrocious act be held accountable," she added.
When questioned about the potential involvement of Pakistan in the attacks, Bruce remarked, "It’s a tragic scenario; however, our remarks will remain limited at this point. As we are all aware, this is a rapidly evolving situation, and we are monitoring it closely. Additionally, we are refraining from taking a stance on the status of Kashmir or Jammu at this time."
The US quickly expressed its support for India in the aftermath of the attack on Tuesday, with President Donald Trump reaching out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi later that same day.
US Vice-President J.D. Vance also commented on the incident before departing India after a four-day visit. "I wish to convey our condolences to the people of Kashmir impacted by this dreadful terrorist act. The President has already connected with Prime Minister Modi, and I expect to speak with him again later today. We are, of course, ready to provide any assistance and support we can to the government and the people of India," he stated.
The US and President Trump have consistently shown strong support for India in its fight against terrorism.
Notably, the American leader personally announced the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, who was wanted in India for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, during Prime Minister Modi's visit to the White House in February. Rana is now in the custody of Indian law enforcement.
