Amritsar, April 23 (NationPress) The officiating Jathedar of the Akal Takht, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, on Wednesday expressed his condemnation of the horrific attack in Pahalgam, located in Jammu and Kashmir.
In his remarks, he conveyed his sorrow over the tragedy and offered prayers to the Akal Purakh for the eternal peace of the departed souls, as well as strength for the grieving families to accept His will.
He also prayed that such inhumane actions should never take place anywhere in the world and emphasized the need for peace and harmony throughout the nation and beyond.
Jathedar Gargaj mentioned that the Pahalgam incident deeply affected him, recalling the March 2000 massacre in Chittisinghpura, Kashmir, where 35 Sikhs lost their lives, yet the truth of that event remains elusive.
Resonating with these sentiments, Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), stated: "This brutal and inhumane act has severely impacted societal values."
On Tuesday, at least 26 tourists lost their lives when armed assailants opened fire on innocent civilians in Baisaran, a serene area in Jammu and Kashmir. Eyewitnesses reported that a group of heavily armed terrorists emerged from nearby forests and began firing indiscriminately at civilians, mostly tourists. Baisaran is a small meadow located three to four kilometers from the Pahalgam market, accessible only by horseback due to the absence of a motorable road.
In response to the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to New Delhi on Wednesday morning, having shortened his visit to Saudi Arabia. He held a brief meeting with NSA Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri at the airport. PM Modi unequivocally condemned the terror attack on Tuesday, asserting that those responsible will face justice and reaffirming India’s unwavering commitment to combat terrorism.
