New Delhi, Feb 22 (NationPress) On Saturday, Delhi’s newly appointed Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was approached by her predecessor and AAP leader Atishi to arrange a meeting regarding the prompt initiation of a Rs 2,500 monthly financial support scheme for women – a commitment made by the BJP during the Assembly elections.

In her letter on Saturday, Atishi stated, “The inaugural Cabinet meeting of the AAP government occurred on February 20, yet the Rs 2,500 monthly scheme for women was not approved. The women of Delhi had faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assurance and now feel deceived.”

This correspondence from Atishi, seemingly part of her party's pressure strategy, follows CM Gupta's announcement just a day after her oath on February 20, which indicated that discussions regarding the details of the scheme had commenced to ensure that funds are transferred to the bank accounts of women beneficiaries prior to March 8 – International Women’s Day.

Atishi remarked in her letter, “The Aam Aadmi Party's legislative group wishes to meet with you to deliberate on this matter tomorrow, February 23.”

Requesting CM Gupta to confirm the meeting, she expressed, “I respectfully ask on behalf of millions of women in Delhi for you to spare some time from your busy schedule so we can present our perspective to you for decisive action on this scheme.”

Elaborating on the necessity of this meeting, Atishi pointed out that PM Modi pledged to the mothers and sisters of Delhi during a BJP rally in Dwarka on January 31, 2025, that following the establishment of the BJP government, a scheme providing Rs 2,500 monthly would be passed in the very first Cabinet meeting.

Previously, Delhi’s Home and Power Minister Ashish Sood criticized the AAP for claiming that the BJP government was delaying the fulfillment of the Rs 2,500 monthly payment commitment to women.

“Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is diligently working on this matter, and progress will be communicated soon,” Sood informed IANS.

“The BJP does not make false promises like the AAP. The formalities of the scheme are being deliberated by the CM,” he added.

During her first Cabinet meeting, CM Gupta also sanctioned a 100-day plan, resolved to clean the Yamuna river and develop its waterfront, approved the tabling of pending CAG reports in the Assembly, and endorsed the introduction of the Central-government funded Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), which provides health coverage to each family.
