New Delhi, Feb 23 (NationPress) As the inaugural session of the newly formed Delhi Assembly approaches, former Chief Minister and Kalkaji MLA Atishi has been selected as the leader of the AAP legislature party with support from 22 MLAs. She promptly acknowledged Arvind Kejriwal, the National Convenor, for her elevation to this leadership position.
Atishi's unanimous selection positions her as the Leader of the Opposition in the newly constituted 70-member Delhi Assembly, enabling her to challenge the BJP’s female Leader of the House and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The BJP holds 48 seats while the AAP has 22 MLAs.
Vowing to act as a constructive LoP, Atishi expressed her gratitude to Kejriwal for granting her the responsibility of leading the AAP Legislature Party in an Assembly characterized by all-woman confrontations between the treasury and opposition benches for the first time since 1993.
Following the AAP legislature party meeting, Atishi shared on X, “I extend my heartfelt thanks to AAP National Convenor @ArvindKejriwal ji and the Aam Aadmi Party Legislative Party for entrusting me with the role of leader of the AAP Legislative Party in the Delhi Assembly.”
“The citizens of Delhi have given us the mandate to be the Opposition, and as a robust opposition, we will ensure the BJP government delivers on all promises made to the people of Delhi. During the elections, Modi Ji guaranteed Rs 2,500/month to every woman in Delhi,” she remarked.
“We will hold the BJP accountable for fulfilling this promise. The Aam Aadmi Party will vigorously raise public issues in the House. Our fight for the rights of Delhi and its residents will persist,” she stated.
When asked about the ruling BJP’s plan to present the CAG reports in the Assembly, she clarified, “I was the one who sent the CAG reports to the Speaker when I served as Chief Minister. The BJP is attempting to falsely claim credit for the presentation of the CAG reports, which are typically brought before the House as part of the regular process.”
“The BJP seeks to create a false narrative that it is the one presenting the CAG reports to the House. We aim to unveil this narrative to the public,” she asserted.
Atishi defended the absence of CAG report presentations during the previous AAP administration, stating, “That is a standard procedure. CAG reports are submitted to the Speaker at various intervals,” she noted.
Atishi also assured AAP supporters in the city that she and her Assembly colleagues would resist any efforts by the ruling BJP to terminate welfare initiatives, such as the Mohalla Clinics, established by the Kejriwal administration.
The motion to appoint Atishi as the AAP leader in the Assembly was introduced by Sanjeev Jha and was seconded and supported by Kuldeep Kumar and Jarnail Singh.
