Kolkata, Feb 23 (NationPress) Mohun Bagan Super Giant emerged as the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 League Winners following their 1-0 triumph over Odisha FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium on Sunday.

The Mariners successfully defended their title, making history as the first team in ISL to achieve this feat, accumulating 52 points after this win, leaving FC Goa in second place with 42 points and three matches remaining. Under the guidance of Jose Molina, the team celebrated this victory with a record of 16 wins and four draws, achieving their sixth consecutive clean sheet, the highest in the competition's history.

After a cautious beginning, Odisha FC made an attempt to breach the Mohun Bagan Super Giant defense from the right flank. Hugo Boumous expertly threaded a through ball to Rahul KP, who rushed his shot and failed to hit the target in the 19th minute.

Lalengmawia Ralte, a vital player in midfield, showcased his attacking ability by passing to Jamie Maclaren in the 31st minute. Unlike Rahul, Maclaren's shot was on target but was saved and redirected for a corner by Odisha FC goalkeeper Amrinder Singh.

Amrinder had a busy next 15 minutes as the home team continued to pressure him. Greg Stewart intercepted an Odisha defensive play and fired a shot aimed at the bottom left corner, which was expertly saved by the visiting keeper. Maclaren was in position for the rebound but was denied by Amrinder just before half-time.

Stewart remained a threat in the second half, and in the 60th minute, he set up Manvir Singh, but the opportunity was wasted. In the 82nd minute, Dimitrios Petratos attempted a long-range shot, but Amrinder was quick to block it. The match took a turn when Mourtada Fall received a red card for a foul on Maclaren, leaving Odisha FC down to 10 men.

Petratos continued to seek the winning goal during added time and ultimately clinched the game and the championship for the Mariners with a powerful shot from outside the box, finding the bottom left corner and overcoming Amrinder’s defenses, resulting in a title-winning victory.
