New Delhi, Feb 21 (NationPress) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia on Friday accused Congress MP Rahul Gandhi of engaging in anti-national activities and conspiring with foreign entities to overthrow Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whom his party has been unable to defeat in elections.
Bhatia stated that Rahul Gandhi struggles to accept that PM Modi has emerged as a global leader, while questioning the Congress leader regarding the recent disclosures about USAID's attempts to meddle in Indian elections and his connections with American investor George Soros and US politician Ilhan Omar, known for her anti-India stance.
Referring to a statement made by US President Donald Trump, which outlined how USAID funding was allegedly utilized to interfere in India's electoral processes, Bhatia claimed that the Congress party has now positioned itself as anti-India and is collaborating with forces harmful to India's interests.
"Congress leaders are working against the progress and unity of the nation through their comments and actions," he remarked during a press conference.
In his ongoing criticism of PM Modi, Bhatia accused Rahul Gandhi of harboring animosity towards the country and its citizens, alleging that he has shown disdain for the Constitution whose oath he has taken.
Bhatia asserted that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress are unsettled by a stable nation under PM Modi as they are accustomed to receiving kickbacks through intermediaries.
Prior to the Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi, along with numerous patriotic journalists and organizations, responsibly raised alarms regarding foreign intervention in India's elections, he noted.
The intention behind this interference was to oust PM Modi, recognized as the world's most popular leader, and to tarnish the pride of the nation. Bhatia mentioned that the allocation of $21 million was aimed at meddling in India's electoral proceedings and removing PM Modi.
Bhatia emphasized that under the Congress leadership, there has been a lack of sound policies for the country, claiming that the Congress party has consistently prioritized power over national development.
"In contrast, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India has experienced strong, decisive governance. Rahul Gandhi finds this intolerable. I assert with full responsibility that he is betraying India, its Constitution, and its citizens," he stated.
The Ministry of External Affairs previously announced that relevant departments and agencies are investigating the information released by the US administration concerning USAID's involvement in Indian elections and its financial efforts to influence voter turnout.
"We have observed information issued by the US administration regarding certain USAID activities and funding, which are undeniably concerning. This has raised alarms about foreign interference in India's domestic matters," said Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a media briefing in Delhi.
"Relevant departments and agencies are examining this issue. It would be too early to make a public statement at this moment. Relevant authorities are investigating this, and we anticipate providing an update later," he added.
