Chandigarh, March 15 (NationPress) BJP's national General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Saturday condemned the grenade attack on the Thakurdwara temple in Amritsar and called for a CBI investigation to uncover the forces attempting to disrupt law and order in Punjab.
Expressing deep concern over the continual grenade attacks in the state, Chugh stated that the AAP government, led by Bhagwant Mann, has utterly failed to manage disruptive elements. Chugh emphasized that while previous attacks targeted police stations, the assault on a Hindu temple signifies a serious and alarming development.
He noted that there seems to be a calculated effort to sow communal and social discord within the state. Chugh reiterated his demand for the state police to be empowered to confront such threats and reiterated the need for a CBI investigation into the series of grenade attacks in Punjab.
He criticized the AAP government for seemingly prioritizing entertainment for party leaders from Delhi over addressing pressing law and order issues, resulting in a heightened sense of insecurity among the residents of Punjab.
In a bold incident, two individuals on a motorcycle launched a hand grenade at the temple, causing a significant explosion; fortunately, no injuries were reported.
This marks the 12th such incident in the last four months in Punjab, which shares a long border with Pakistan. In earlier incidents, the targets were primarily police establishments. CCTV footage captured the assailants arriving on a motorcycle adorned with a flag, conducting a brief reconnaissance before launching the grenade and fleeing the scene.
The attack occurred late Friday night in the Khandwala area of Amritsar, damaging the temple's wall. Thankfully, a priest and his family residing on the temple's upper floor remained unharmed.
A local resident, Kiranpreet Singh, an advocate, reported, “At around midnight, two individuals rode in on a motorcycle, paused outside the Thakur Dwara Mandir, surveyed the area, and hurled a grenade at the temple.
“The explosion was so intense that it impacted nearby buildings, shattering windowpanes. The police arrived shortly after, confirming that evidence indicated a grenade attack.”
Amritsar Police Commissioner, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, informed the media that there are efforts “by Pakistan to disrupt the atmosphere here, with involvement from some local youths. I urge our youth to refrain from engaging in such activities.”
