Kolkata, Jan 20 (NationPress) A naked body of a missing minor girl, believed to be a victim of rape and murder, was discovered in a field at Basanti, located in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, on Monday evening.
As per the district police superintendent, Palash Chandra Dhali, the eighth-grade student had been unaccounted for since January 9.
The family reported her missing three days later, on January 12, according to him.
“Now the body has been retrieved. The police are probing the case based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s parents. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination,” he stated.
Sources indicated that following the parents' report of her missing, local authorities commenced their search. “On Monday evening, we received a tip-off regarding the victim being concealed in a field close to her home,” they noted.
Ultimately, the body was unearthed after excavating a portion of the field.
The victim’s family alleged that their daughter had left the house on the afternoon of January 9 after being summoned by a local youth.
“She has been untraceable since then. We suspect that she was gang-raped prior to her body being buried. We demand that the perpetrators be located and face severe punishment,” a family member expressed.
Tension remains high in the area following the body’s recovery. Local residents have also protested against law enforcement regarding the incident.
The discovery of the victim’s body occurred mere hours after a special court in Kolkata sentenced Sanjay Roy, the sole perpetrator in the horrific rape and murder case of a female junior doctor at the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital last August, to life imprisonment.
