New Delhi, Feb 5 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu exercised her voting rights for the Delhi Assembly elections on Wednesday at Rajendra Prasad Kendriya Vidyalaya, located in the President's Estate, under stringent security protocols.
Earlier that day, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, with his wife Sangeeta Saxena, also participated in the voting at St Xavier's School, Raj Niwas Marg.
The voting process is ongoing across all 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi, with numerous notable leaders casting their votes early in the day. Voting is set to end at 6 pm today.
With around 3,000 polling booths labeled as sensitive, authorities have heightened security measures. A total of 220 paramilitary force companies, 35,626 Delhi Police personnel, and 19,000 Home Guards have been deployed. Additionally, drone surveillance and Quick Reaction Teams are on standby to ensure law and order.
Congress candidate from New Delhi, Sandeep Dikshit, and BJP state president Virendra Sachdeva were among the first individuals to cast their votes.
Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra voted at a government school in Shahdara, while External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi also participated in the electoral process.
The results of this election will determine if the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) maintains its position, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stages a comeback, or if the Congress reasserts itself as a formidable contender. The results will be announced on February 8.
The campaigning period concluded on Monday at 6 pm after a vigorous electoral contest. In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, the AAP secured a remarkable victory with 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP won 8, and the Congress failed to gain any seats for the second consecutive time.
As the polling continues, attention is now focused on voter turnout and the ultimate electoral decision.
