Guwahati, Feb 22 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has mocked the opposition, stating that Congress MP Rakibul Hussain, who was assaulted by miscreants, has declined to participate in a medical examination necessary for the investigation.

The Chief Minister noted, "Today, Congress MP Rakibul Hussain lodged a First Information Report (FIR) regarding an attack that took place yesterday. However, he has yet to agree to a medical examination."

"Without this examination, law enforcement cannot accurately ascertain and apply the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Penal Code) in the FIR. It is vital for the Congress party and the Leader of the Opposition to acknowledge this situation," he continued.

On Friday, police apprehended 10 individuals linked to the assault on Hussain.

Chief Minister Sarma stated, "The police have recognized those involved in the purported attack on Congress MP Rakibul Hussain."

He also indicated that legal action would follow.

Hussain, representing the Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency, was participating in a public event in the Nagaon district when he was attacked by several miscreants.

The Congress MP had to escape the scene while donning a helmet to protect himself from the assailants.

Security personnel accompanying Hussain suffered minor injuries during the incident.

A viral video depicted masked assailants initially displaying black flags to the Congress MP before launching their attack.

Hussain was observed fleeing the area on a two-wheeler to avoid the attackers.

This episode, which occurred in the Ruporihat locality of Nagaon district, has provoked backlash from the opposition, with Congress leaders criticizing the BJP-led Assam government.

Gaurav Gogoi, Deputy Opposition Leader in the Lok Sabha, condemned the BJP administration as Congress MP Rakibul Hussain faced an attack from miscreants in Nagaon district on Thursday.
