New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) A total of 699 candidates will compete for 70 Delhi Assembly seats in the upcoming election on February 5, with the highest number of 23 candidates vying for the prominent New Delhi seat held by AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, as confirmed by an official after the withdrawal deadline concluded on Monday.
Up until a day before the final candidate list was announced, 719 candidates remained in contention following the nomination paper scrutiny conducted on Friday and Saturday.
In total, 1,522 nomination sets, including duplicates, were submitted by 981 candidates up to Sunday.
After the name withdrawal deadline on Monday, the New Delhi constituency, where Kejriwal is contesting his fourth election, features 23 candidates. The Janakpuri area has 16 candidates, while Karawal Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, and Rohtas Nagar each have 15 candidates in the fray.
Additionally, Burari and Adarsh Nagar feature 14 nominees each, with more than half a dozen constituencies, including Mundka, R.K.
