New Delhi, March 15 (NationPress) In a shocking incident of road rage on the festive day of Holi, a motorcyclist was brutally murdered on a crowded street by another biker who smashed a glass bottle on his head and cut his throat with the shard after their vehicles made contact in the Kalyanpuri area of east Delhi.

The perpetrator, Pankaj, aged 25, a resident of Ghaziabad and a salesman for the coffee brand Sleepy Owl, along with his accomplice Jeetu, from Mandawali, were apprehended for the murder of Ashish, 25, just four hours after the event occurred at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, as reported by a police official.

The victim was taken to a hospital by a friend who was riding with him, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries en route, according to police statements.

Ashish, also a resident of Ghaziabad, was a tea stall owner who operated an outlet in Noida’s Sector 9, the police confirmed.

According to Vineet Kumar, Additional DCP of East Delhi, Pankaj and Jeetu have been charged with murder.

“We are waiting for their medical reports to determine if they were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crime,” he stated, adding that witnesses suggested that Pankaj seemed intoxicated during the altercation.

The police received reports of the murder from the hospital where Ashish was taken post-incident.

A senior police official disclosed that multiple teams were deployed to locate the suspects. Using the registration number of Pankaj’s motorcycle, they traced him to his residence in Ghaziabad and arrested him.

On the day of Holi, the Delhi Traffic Police reported prosecuting 1,213 drivers for drunken driving in the capital, as stated by an official.

Dinesh Kumar Gupta, Additional Commissioner of Police for Traffic, mentioned that during a special operation from 8 a.m. to midnight on Friday, 2,376 two-wheeler riders were cited for riding without helmets.

Additionally, 573 vehicle owners were charged for triple riding. In total, 3,068 other citations were issued for various traffic violations, he noted.

“In total, there were 7,230 traffic rule violations reported on Holi,” Gupta concluded.
