Mumbai, Feb 21 (NationPress) A significant fire erupted in the Santosh Nagar slum adjacent to the entrance of Film City in the Goregaon (East) district of Mumbai on Thursday evening. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported thus far, according to a fire department representative.

The fire was successfully controlled within a span of three hours, the official stated.

As per the Disaster Management cell, the incident was first noted at 7:29 p.m. and escalated to a Level 2 (major fire) at 7:50 p.m.

Approximately 14 fire engines, equipped with breathing apparatus, ambulances, and other essential gear, were dispatched to the location to tackle the blaze.

A fire official confirmed that the fire was restricted to the slum area near Film City. The residents managed to evacuate promptly, and no injuries have been reported to date. The precise cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

"The fire is limited to 150 to 200 hutments. The blaze has been contained from all directions, and operations are ongoing," he stated.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has arranged food and shelter for around 200-250 residents affected by the fire at the Gokuldham municipal school, the official mentioned.

"There are no reports of any injuries. The firefighting operations are ongoing. All relevant agencies, including the 108 ambulance service, are present at the scene. Further updates will follow," the fire official remarked.

So far, the blaze has been limited to the huts in the vicinity, reported the Mumbai Fire Brigade.

A fire also occurred on Wednesday (February 19) at a shop unit in Azad Wadi Chawl in the Kandivali area of north Mumbai, but no injuries were reported.

Previously, at least ten shops were destroyed by a fire at a furniture market in suburban Oshiwara on February 11.

Earlier, on January 25, a fire broke out at a furniture market in the Goregaon area of Mumbai. The incident began around 11:20 a.m. and affected five furniture shops at the Khadakpada market. This blaze was categorized as level three, indicating a major fire, but again, no casualties were reported in this case.
