Jammu, Feb 21 (NationPress) A flag meeting between India and Pakistan is planned for Friday at the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir to discuss the escalating incidents of ceasefire violations.
This meeting will see Brigadier-level officers from both nations convening at the Chakan Da Bagh crossing point in the district.
The ceasefire agreement between the Indian and Pakistani armed forces was established in 2021, which significantly reduced tensions along the LoC and brought a degree of normalcy to the lives of numerous families residing on both sides of the border.
However, recent exchanges of gunfire across the LoC have resulted in injuries to two soldiers in the Poonch and Rajouri districts.
On February 11, an IED explosion in the Akhnoor sector of the LoC in Jammu district claimed the lives of two soldiers, including a captain. Officials stated that the IED was planted by terrorists.
The Indian Army responded to the cross-LoC firing in Poonch, with reports indicating that this retaliation caused casualties on the Pakistani side of the LoC. Intelligence assessments revealed that due to minimal snowfall this winter, traditional infiltration routes in J&K remain accessible, allowing terrorists to attempt to breach the Indian border.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah led two security review meetings concerning J&K, where he instructed security forces to ensure a policy of zero infiltration and zero tolerance towards terrorism.
J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha also conducted two recent security meetings, one in Srinagar and another in Jammu. He directed police and security forces to dismantle the terror ecosystem by targeting terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.
Following the peaceful and participative Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections in the union territory last year, there has been an uptick in terrorist activities.
In response to the increase in terrorist incidents, security forces have initiated aggressive operations against these groups.
