New Delhi, April 30 (NationPress) A judicial investigation has been launched following the suspected custodial death of a 19-year-old individual, known as Ravi Sahni, also referred to as Ravi Kaliya, hailing from Samalka, New Delhi.

The incident transpired on Tuesday during his transport to a police station post-arrest.

As per a statement from the Delhi Police, the incident unfolded around 3 p.m. when a motorcycle patrol unit noticed two individuals on a bike behaving suspiciously near the Palam region.

Upon being signaled to halt, the pair allegedly attempted to escape but were apprehended after a short pursuit.

The suspects were identified as Vikas alias Majnu (28) and Ravi Sahni alias Ravi Kaliya (19), both residing in Samalka. Following a search, law enforcement claims to have seized a country-made pistol and one live cartridge from Vikas.

Further probing revealed that the motorcycle they were riding had been reported stolen under a vehicle theft case filed at the Palam Village Police Station.

Ravi was allegedly operating the stolen vehicle.

A new case was subsequently filed against the duo under the Arms Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Kapashera Police Station.

After a routine medical check-up, both suspects were transported in a government vehicle to the police lock-up at the Vasant Kunj North police station.

However, during transit, police report that both accused allegedly jumped from the slow-moving police vehicle near the Vasant Kunj North station. They sustained abrasion injuries and were rushed to IGI Hospital for treatment. While Vikas survived, Ravi Sahni was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Family members of the deceased have claimed that the victim faced harassment in police custody, which contributed to his death. They also held a protest on the Samalkha-Kapashera road.

In light of these events, a judicial inquiry has been initiated following legal protocols.

The Delhi Police have affirmed that all actions are being conducted as per standard procedures and that further investigations are underway.
