Kolkata, April 25 (NationPress) The terrorists behind the Pahalgam massacre in Kashmir and their associates will face consequences, declared West Bengal BJP President and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar on Thursday, as he participated in the last rites of the slain Intelligence Bureau (IB) official Manish Ranjan Mishra, who was among three tourists from West Bengal killed on Tuesday.

The body of Mishra arrived at Ranchi airport on Thursday morning, after which his widow began the journey with her husband's remains to Jhalda in Purulia district, West Bengal, where he was born and where his ancestral home still stands.

Upon the arrival of the IB officer's remains in Jhalda, local residents gathered on the streets to follow the procession transporting Mishra's body.

The townsfolk of Jhalda had previously held a 12-hour strike from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in honor of Mishra on Thursday.

Among those attending the final farewell was Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar.

"The tragedy that unfolded at Pahalgam was appalling. Coincidentally, I was in Purulia, so I came here to pay my respects to this brave son of the soil. The nation must comprehend how tourists were targeted in Pahalgam. Those responsible for this massacre, along with their masterminds, will not evade justice. Manish Ranjan Mishra lost his life because he couldn't recite Kalma. Yet, certain leaders continue to assert that terrorists lack a religion. These leaders are merely trying to deny the truth," Majumdar remarked.

Although currently stationed in Hyderabad, where Mishra lived with his wife, son, and daughter, he was originally from Jhalda, where he spent his childhood.

His family, including his parents, still reside in their ancestral home in Jhalda.

Mishra had previously been assigned to the Jharkhand capital, Ranchi, before being transferred to Hyderabad.

He had traveled to Pahalgam with his family and had plans to visit the Vaishno Devi Temple, according to other relatives from Jhalda.

He departed from Hyderabad for an extended family vacation on April 15.
