Bengaluru, Feb 21 (NationPress) At least five individuals from Karnataka's Bidar district tragically lost their lives, and seven others sustained injuries in a road mishap near Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday.
They were en route to Kashi after participating in the Maha Kumbh Mela and taking a sacred dip at the Triveni Sangam.
The victims have been named as 40-year-old Sunitha, 62-year-old Neelamma, 57-year-old Laxmi, 60-year-old Kalavathi, and 45-year-old Santhosh. All were residents of the Ladageri locality in Bidar city.
As per police reports, seven other individuals suffered serious injuries and were taken to a local hospital for medical assistance.
The tragic accident transpired early on Friday morning on the national highway near Roopapur in Mirzapur district. Authorities indicated that the cruiser vehicle carrying the victims collided with a parked vehicle. The force of the crash was so intense that all five victims died instantly, police confirmed.
A group of 14 individuals had departed from Bidar on February 18 to take part in the Maha Kumbh Mela, traveling in a vehicle with the registration number KA 48 M 1853.
Previously, Ramakrishna Sharma, a Mysuru resident, and Arun Shastri from Mandya district were also killed in a road accident while returning to the state after attending the Maha Kumbh Mela. They were involved in a collision with a truck near Mirjapur in Uttar Pradesh last month.
Additionally, four individuals from Karnataka, including a mother and daughter, were confirmed dead in a tragic stampede that claimed 30 lives at Prayagraj on January 29 during the Maha Kumbh Mela.
These four were identified as Megha Deepak Hattavarth (24), her mother Jyothi Deepak Hattavarth (44), Arun Korpade (61), and Mahadev Hanmanth Bavanur (48).
In another shocking incident, a man from Karnataka hired hitmen to murder his younger brother, then attended the Maha Kumbh Mela to distract police from his actions. He was apprehended by the Mandya police upon his return from Prayagraj on February 16.
