Mumbai, Jan 20 (NationPress) The opposition in Maharashtra has criticized the MahaYuti government for its decision to suspend the appointments of Girish Mahajan (BJP) and Aditi Tatkare (NCP) as the guardian ministers for Nashik and Raigad districts, respectively, following a significant objection from Shiv Sena.
“The chaos and greed in the EVM sarkar. Last night, a sudden “stay” order was issued regarding the Guardian Ministries of Nashik and Raigad, while the Chief Minister is abroad. It is astonishing that the Chief Minister succumbed to the pressure tactics of opportunistic politicians who are already ministers but seek guardian ministries to fulfill their own desires. Despite possessing a solid majority, the Chief Minister has capitulated to the 'Dadagiri' of the 'Gaddaar gang'. Imagine, their group burned tires and blocked a highway just to secure an extra position for their leaders. This exemplifies how the current BJP government is functioning, being intimidated by a few,” stated Aaditya Thackeray, leader of Shiv Sena UBT and former minister, on X.
He further asserted that while citizens in Beed and Parbhani are battling for justice and the government remains indifferent, the avaricious ministers are preoccupied with amassing more power.
“This is an insult to the two ministers from whom responsibilities have been stripped. Should we focus on the district's development or just claim it to provide for the needy? This reflects the state of the MahaYuti government today, even after achieving a substantial majority. After 50 days, this government appointed the district's Guardian Minister only to disgracefully change it overnight,” he continued.
He added that the initial cabinet expansion, followed by portfolio allocation, and now the delay in assigning the guardian minister roles, all point to a singular reason: “Who will receive the significant reward!? The development of the district and its people has been sidelined, as the MahaYuti struggles to develop itself first,” Aaditya remarked while criticizing the BJP-led MahaYuti government.
Conversely, former Maharashtra Leader of Opposition and veteran Congress member Vinay Wadettiwar ridiculed the government, questioning if the position of guardian minister is intended for district welfare or for personal gain.
“The MahaYuti government today, despite its significant majority, is in a precarious state. After 50 days, they appointed District Guardian Ministers, only to be embarrassed by the necessity of changing the Guardian Minister in an instant! The cabinet expansion, the portfolio allocation, and now the delay in assigning guardian minister duties were all for one reason: Who will secure the major prize? The development of the district and its people remains distant as the MahaYuti government focuses on its own growth,” Wadettiwar claimed.
The opposition reacted to the state government's decision to suspend the appointments of Nashik and Raigad district guardian ministers after Shiv Sena expressed outrage and brought the issue to the attention of the chief leader and former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Shiv Sena minister Dadaji Bhuse was eager to become the Nashik district guardian minister, while minister Bharat Gogawale had openly shown his ambition to take on the Raigad district guardian minister role.
Gogawale, along with party legislator from Karjat, Mahendra Thorwe, opposed the assignment of the Raigad district guardian minister’s role to the NCP.
Meanwhile, state BJP chief and revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule minimized the controversy, asserting that DCM Eknath Shinde is not upset. He dismissed media reports suggesting that he and water resources minister Girish Mahajan would visit Shinde at his ancestral village in Dare, Satara district.
“Once Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis returns from Davos, we will convene to discuss the issue (regarding Shiv Sena’s claims over Nashik and Raigad district guardian minister posts),” he mentioned.
He also noted that the coordination committee comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP meets regularly to discuss various matters, including enhancing cooperation among the ruling partners.
