Imphal, Feb 22 (NationPress) Following the implementation of President's rule in Manipur, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla convened a significant review meeting with senior officials on Friday to enhance the functionality of essential state government departments, as stated by an official.

A senior official indicated that the Governor also assessed the comprehensive budgetary allocations and other technical considerations regarding the rehabilitation of individuals displaced by ethnic violence, who are currently residing in various relief camps across the state.

Over 50,000 men, women, and children are living in approximately 250 relief camps located in multiple districts since they were forced to leave their homes and villages following the outbreak of ethnic violence in May 2023.

During the meeting, the Governor evaluated the overall budgetary distributions of several crucial departments that directly impact the population, particularly those affected by the violence.

He also inquired about the provisions for offering skill development training and the feasibility of employment opportunities in the private sector for the Displaced Persons.

The Governor instructed officials to implement the 'Hunar Se Rojgar' initiative, a program by the Government of India under the Ministry of Tourism, specifically targeting the youth of the state, especially the displaced individuals.

After the proclamation of President's Rule in Manipur on February 13, the review meeting led by the Governor was deemed highly significant, according to the official.

Present at the meeting were Chief Secretary P.K. Singh, Commissioner (Home) N. Ashok Kumar, Secretary (Health) Sumant Singh, Commissioner of Education (School) Gyan Prakash, Joint Secretary Mercina R. Panmei, along with other senior officials from various departments, which took place in the conference hall of the Manipur Secretariat (South Block).

Former Union Home Secretary Bhalla took office as the Governor of Manipur on January 3 and has been holding crucial meetings daily with senior officials from both state and central levels since then.
