Bokaro, Jan 22 (NationPress) In a significant operation, two Maoists, including a female member, were eliminated during an encounter with security forces in the Tejnarayanpur police station area of Bokaro district early on Wednesday morning, according to police officials.
This operation also resulted in the recovery of a stash of weapons and other materials belonging to the Maoists.
The encounter occurred during a coordinated search operation by the Bokaro District Police and the 209th Battalion of the CRPF’s elite Cobra unit.
Based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of an armed Maoist group in the Jarwa and Banshi forests of Upar Ghat, the forces cordoned off the area. As the search continued, the Maoists opened fire, prompting a counterattack from the security personnel.
Among the seized weapons were one AK-47 rifle and two INSAS rifles. The deceased Maoists were later identified as Shanti and Manoj Baske.
Shanti, who resided in Dhawaiyatand village under Khukhara police station in Giridih district, was an area commander of the CPI (Maoist).
Manoj Baske, the second deceased cadre, was from the Pirtand police station area in the same district.
The operation was initiated following the arrest of Shanti’s husband, Ranvijay Mahato, on Tuesday evening from the Chandrapura police station area. Ranvijay, a wanted Maoist with a bounty of Rs 15 lakh on his head, was captured by Jharkhand Police. His interrogation provided critical information regarding the movements of the Maoist gang in the region.
Police officials indicated that the operation is ongoing, with security forces continuing to search through the area.
Just the day prior, 14 Maoists, including six women, were killed in an encounter with security forces on the Odisha-Chhattigarh border during another significant operation. Their bodies have been retrieved.
Earlier, on January 16, at least 17 Maoists were slain in an encounter with security forces in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, with a substantial cache of weapons also being recovered.
