New Delhi, Feb 21 (NationPress) Mayawati, the chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), on Friday urged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to reflect on his own actions before placing blame on others, particularly her. In a series of posts on social media platform X, she accused the Congress party of functioning as a "B" team to the BJP during the Delhi Assembly elections, thereby facilitating the BJP's rise to power.
Referring to Rahul Gandhi as the "supreme leader" of Congress, she stated on X in Hindi (translated loosely), "It is widely acknowledged that Congress acted as the BJP's B team in the recent assembly elections, which contributed to the BJP's victory here. Otherwise, Congress's performance would not have been so dismal that it failed to secure deposits for most of its candidates in this election."
"Thus, it would be prudent for the supreme leader of this party, Shri Rahul Gandhi, to examine his own self before accusing others, particularly the BSP chief," she advised.
This response follows Rahul Gandhi's statement on Thursday expressing disappointment that Mayawati's BSP did not collaborate with Congress in the elections against the BJP.
During his visit to his constituency in Rae Bareli, he criticized her for not joining the anti-BJP coalition, known as the INDIA bloc, for the 2024 general elections.
While speaking to Dalit students in Uttar Pradesh, Gandhi acknowledged the influence of BSP founder Kanshi Ram on Indian politics and lauded Mayawati's contributions.
He, however, raised concerns about Mayawati's current political position, indicating his desire for her to unite with the bloc against the BJP, which she has refrained from doing.
"This situation is quite disappointing. Had all three parties united, the BJP would not have emerged victorious," he remarked.
Mayawati swiftly countered by accusing the Congress of demonstrating a “dual character and casteist mindset”. She posted on her X handle, “In regions where Congress holds strength or power, it shows animosity and casteist attitudes towards the BSP and its supporters. Yet, in states like UP, where it lacks influence, it attempts to mislead the public by discussing an alliance with the BSP. If this isn't hypocrisy, then what is?”
On Friday, the BSP leader continued to criticize Rahul Gandhi.
She also offered advice to the BJP in Delhi, where Rekha Gupta has taken office as Chief Minister.
"The newly formed BJP government in Delhi faces the task of fulfilling all election promises, particularly those related to public welfare and development, in a timely manner; otherwise, its fate may mirror that of Congress in the future," she remarked on X.
