New Delhi, Feb 22 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to be the guest of honour at the 57th National Day celebrations of Mauritius, as announced by the country's Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam during a parliamentary address.

During his speech, the Prime Minister of Mauritius stated, “In light of the celebrations for the 57th anniversary of our nation's independence, I am pleased to inform the House that following my invitation, His Excellency, Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, has graciously accepted to be our Guest of Honour for the National Day festivities.”

“It is indeed a unique privilege for our nation to host such an esteemed figure, who honors us by attending despite his busy schedule and recent trips to Paris and the United States. His visit reflects the strong ties between our two countries,” the Prime Minister of Mauritius added.

Previously, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Navin Ramgoolam on his election as Mauritius PM in November.

“I had a productive conversation with my friend @Ramgoolam_Dr, congratulating him on his significant electoral success. I wished him well in leading Mauritius and extended an invitation to visit India. I look forward to collaborating closely to enhance our exceptional partnership,” PM Modi expressed in a post on X.

Over the years, the Indian government under Prime Minister Modi has emphasized New Delhi's steadfast commitment to its special and lasting partnership with Mauritius.

In July 2024, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar visited Mauritius for two days, one of his first destinations as EAM, engaging in extensive discussions with both Pravind Kumar Jugnauth (then PM) and Ramgoolam on various facets of bilateral relations, including development, defense, maritime collaboration, economic and trade links, and community connections.

During his visit, the EAM, alongside the then Prime Minister of Mauritius, launched high-impact community development projects, exchanged Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), and presented the first Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards to two seventh-generation Indian-origin Mauritians.

A total of 12 community development projects covering infrastructure, education, healthcare, public amenities, and sports were inaugurated virtually during Jaishankar's visit.

He also reaffirmed India's unwavering support to Mauritius in its pursuit of progress and prosperity.
