Bhubaneswar, Feb 22 (NationPress) Four Odia workers hailing from the Ganjam district, who found themselves stranded in Oman, have successfully made their way back to Odisha as of Friday.

The workers touched down in Mumbai after arriving from Muscat on an Air India Express flight at 4 a.m. on Thursday and then continued their journey to Berhampur by train.

On Friday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his appreciation towards External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and the Indian Embassy in Oman for their pivotal role in facilitating the safe return of these four workers.

According to a press release from the Chief Minister's Office, upon receiving notifications about the workers' distress through emails and various Odia newspapers, Chief Minister Majhi swiftly instructed the Principal Resident Commissioner in New Delhi to initiate immediate rescue efforts.

Following the Chief Minister's directives, the Principal Resident Commissioner liaised with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Ambassador in Oman to ensure the workers' safe release.

The Indian Embassy managed to locate the workers in Sohar, Oman, and maintained consistent contact with them through phone communications.

Additionally, the Embassy arranged for their lodging and meals at a local gurdwara until their departure.

Reports state that the families of the stranded workers had recently implored the state government to assist in their rescue.

Later, CM Majhi personally got involved in the situation, ensuring the safe return of the workers.

It is worth noting that incidents of workers from Odisha being stranded in different states and overseas frequently arise, often prompting victims to seek intervention from both state and central governments for their rescue.

In December of the previous year, around 40 Odia workers, including 11 from the Khallikote block of Ganjam district, who were reportedly stranded in Maldives and enduring significant hardships at a construction firm, released a video message calling for immediate assistance from the Indian government.
