Chandigarh, Feb 20 (NationPress) In a significant achievement during the ongoing initiative to ensure Punjab's safety and security as directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Police's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has apprehended an associate of the foreign-based terrorist Lakhbir Singh, also known as Landa Harike, as reported by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Thursday.
The detained individual has been identified as Sukhchain Singh, alias Bhujia, who resides in Matti village in Mansa.
Police forces have also seized a .32 calibre pistol along with five cartridges from him.
DGP Yadav stated that, based on actionable intelligence, police squads operated under the comprehensive oversight of ADGP, AGTF, Promod Ban, leading to the arrest of the suspect in the Bhikhi area of Mansa along with the recovery of the firearm.
He further indicated that the apprehended individual was a suspect in a recent attempted murder case in Bhikhi.
The accused has a significant criminal background, with multiple cases including attempted murder, violations of the Arms Act, and the NDPS Act registered against him.
Initial investigations suggest that Sukhchain Singh was plotting to target rival gang members.
AIG, AGTF, Sandeep Goel mentioned that ongoing investigations aim to establish both forward and backward connections in this case, hinting at more arrests in the near future.
Officials disclosed that terrorist Landa is operating from Canada, orchestrating the smuggling of arms, ammunition, and drugs via drones from Pakistan. "Landa transmits extortion funds to Pakistan for the illicit trafficking of heroin and illegal weapons through drones into Punjab," an official stated.
As a close associate of Pakistan-based gangster-turned-terrorist Harvinder Singh, also known as Rinda, Landa has joined the pro-Khalistan terror group, Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). He was also a principal conspirator in the rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack on the Punjab Police intelligence headquarters in Mohali, in addition to placing an improvised explosive device (IED) underneath a sub-inspector's vehicle in Amritsar.
