Mumbai, April 24 (NationPress) Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Joint General Secretary Krishna Gopal stated that a kind of intolerance played a pivotal role in the tragic killing of 26 individuals during the terror assault in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.

While addressing an event in Mumbai, Gopal remarked that this same intolerance would ultimately lead to the demise of those who advocate it.

"A form of intolerance is driving the killings in Kashmir. One day, this intolerance will also lead to their (the ones who promote it) downfall," he added.

He further elaborated that such intolerance evolves into a particular kind of nationalism which has fragmented societies globally.

"Nationalism has become very dangerous in Pakistan. The Baloch people express their desire to separate from Pakistan, while the Sindhi people wish to distance themselves from Punjab. During the formation of Bangladesh, they identified as Bangla-speaking individuals, asserting they could not coexist with Pakistan," the RSS leader emphasized.

Gopal asserted that this type of nationalism has contributed to divisions in Europe, citing Rabindranath Tagore's description of it as the worst term conceived by the human mind.

In contrast, he highlighted India's concept of Rashtra, which is rooted in spiritual and cultural unity despite the nation's immense diversity.

"With hundreds of languages, religions, and countless deities, India stands as one...Diversity has been managed successfully. Once we grasp this, we will understand our notion of Rashtra," he explained.

He also referred to the recently conducted Maha Kumbh Mela as an exhibition of India's spiritual unity.

The attack occurred when terrorists descended from the hills in Baisaran, a scenic tourist destination in Pahalgam, also known as 'mini Switzerland', and began shooting at tourists present on Tuesday.

This horrific incident resulted in at least 26 fatalities, primarily among civilians.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on an official visit to Saudi Arabia, cut his trip short and returned to India early Wednesday morning.

He presided over a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), which subsequently announced five significant punitive measures against Pakistan in response to the terror attack.

These measures include suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the integrated check post at the Attari border, and reducing the overall strength of the High Commissions.
