Hyderabad, Feb 5 (NationPress) The ruling Congress party in Telangana has urged its members throughout the state to commemorate the caste census and the sub-categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SCs) for the execution of reservation policies.
The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud has appealed to leaders and workers to organize these celebrations.
He described the caste census and SC sub-categorisation as a “historic advancement towards social justice.”
The caste census report was presented in the State Legislature during a special session on Tuesday.
The Assembly also approved a resolution requesting the Centre to execute a national caste census.
Mahesh Kumar Goud, along with various ministers and MLAs, met with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to express their congratulations on the successful completion of the caste survey and the categorisation for reservation.
“Together with our ministers and MLAs, I had the privilege of meeting Honourable CM Revanth Reddy Garu to commend him on the pivotal resolution for a caste census in the Assembly and the government’s essential report on SC categorisation.
“This is more than just a policy decision; it is a significant declaration that Telangana advocates for equity, empowerment, and just representation,” the TPCC chief stated on ‘X’.
He asserted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the Congress is reshaping the future with bold, people-centric governance.
The Assembly adopted a resolution urging the Government of India to undertake a caste survey nationwide.
The Chief Minister presented the caste survey report conducted in Telangana, which indicated that the Backward Classes (BCs) constitute 56.33 percent of the state's population, with 10.08 percent being BC Muslims.
The findings from the Socio-Economic, Education, Employment, Political and Caste Survey revealed that 17.43 percent of the population are Scheduled Castes (SCs), 10.45 percent are Scheduled Tribes (STs), and 12.56 percent are Muslims, including 2.48 percent from Other Caste (OC) Muslims. The OCs make up 13.31 percent of the total population.
The extensive door-to-door household survey encompassed 3,54,77,554 individuals and 1,12,15,134 families.
The Chief Minister noted that 96.9 percent of the households in the state were reached during the 50-day survey.
Additionally, the Chief Minister submitted to the Assembly the report from the one-member Judicial Commission led by retired High Court judge, Justice Shameem Akhtar.
This Commission has advocated for the sub-classification of SCs into three distinct categories to ensure fair implementation of the 15 percent reservation.
The Commission has recommended the categorization of 59 SC communities into three groups.
“Our government is dedicated to taking further action in alignment with the recommendations from the Commission regarding the classification of SCs. The government is optimistic that SC communities, who have awaited for numerous years, will gain from this SC classification,” the Chief Minister affirmed in his Assembly statement.
