Hyderabad, Feb 21 (NationPress) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced on Friday that women's self-help groups will receive land for the establishment of a petrol pump in each district.
While inaugurating the inaugural petrol pump established by the Zilla Mahila Samaikhya in Narayanpet district, the Chief Minister expressed his joy that this marks the first instance in the country where a women's group has set up a petrol pump.
He noted that initially, the government will facilitate women groups to establish one petrol pump on government land in each district, with plans for one petrol pump in every Assembly constituency in the future.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the ‘people’s government’ prioritizes the welfare and advancement of women. "Self-help groups have been revitalized since the people's government came into power in the state. Currently, there are 67 lakh women members in self-help groups. The government aims to foster one crore women millionaires in Telangana, encouraging women across various sectors," he stated.
He highlighted the ownership of 600 buses by women groups in the Road Transport Corporation and mentioned that the government is providing opportunities for women to establish 1,000 MW solar power plants. Additionally, women self-help groups are permitted to set up stalls at Shilparamam to market their products.
The Chief Minister declared that two sarees would be distributed annually as a gift to each member of women’s groups, with the government allocating Rs.1,000 crore for this initiative.
Revanth Reddy mentioned that management of government schools in rural areas will be handed over to women’s groups, urging them to concentrate on school development while assuring full government support. He advised that any lack of teachers or inadequate infrastructure should be reported to the District Collector.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a new government medical college in Narayanpet.
In a discussion with students, he noted that while the Centre has denied sanctioning medical colleges to the state, state Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha has worked diligently to secure permission for eight medical colleges. "The government is focused on enhancing the infrastructure of the new medical college. Students should leverage the facilities provided in this institution," he remarked.
Revanth Reddy urged medical students to recognize that the medical profession is not merely a job but a responsibility. He stated that doctors can provide excellent services to the state if they excel in their field.
He announced that the new medical college will be named in honor of former MLA Chittem Narsi Reddy, who dedicated 50 years to serving the people of the region.
