Chennai, Feb 22 (NationPress) The party of Tamil cinema icon-turned-politician Vijay, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is gearing up to celebrate its inaugural anniversary on February 26 at a private hotel in Mamallapuram, expecting an attendance of 2,000 office bearers.
Access will be limited to individuals possessing valid passes. Recently, TVK's General Secretary N. Anand conducted a venue inspection to ensure proper arrangements are in place.
During the occasion, TVK leader Vijay is anticipated to present his party's strategic vision as they prepare for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Vijay officially established TVK on February 2, 2024, following extensive speculation regarding his political ambitions.
He subsequently revealed the party's flag and symbol at its Chennai headquarters on August 22, 2024. Since its establishment, TVK has attracted attention due to Vijay's political statements, which have ignited discussions among supporters and analysts due to perceived inconsistencies on various matters.
At the launch, Vijay positioned TVK as a party opposing corruption and divisiveness, announcing its involvement in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
However, he chose not to endorse any party for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
On October 27, 2024, TVK hosted its first significant political conference in Vikravandi, Villupuram district. Vijay described the BJP as his ideological adversary and the DMK as his political adversary. He accused the DMK of being a family-centric party that exploits the Dravidian identity for personal gain while criticizing the BJP for indulging in divisive politics.
In response, DMK officials dismissed Vijay's remarks, claiming that TVK was merely acting as the C-team of the BJP.
Meanwhile, BJP Tamil Nadu spokesperson ANS Prasad encouraged Vijay to prioritize public welfare instead of igniting political controversies. He also urged the actor-turned-politician to recognize the support he has garnered from various political factions, including the BJP.
Vijay's political standing has been on the rise since his fan organization, the All India Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (AITVMI), secured 115 out of 169 seats contested in the 2021 Tamil Nadu local body elections. This achievement distinguishes TVK from other emerging political entities like Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) and Seeman's Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), both of which failed to secure any seats.
Political analysts speculate that Vijay's recent comments reflect his aspirations for the Chief Minister's role in the 2026 elections. He has also indicated that TVK will only ally with parties willing to accept his leadership, further solidifying his ambition to dominate Tamil Nadu's political arena.
