New Delhi, Feb 22 (NationPress) All-rounder Amanjot Kaur played a pivotal role with an unbeaten score of 34 runs off 27 balls, including two sixes and two fours, leading the Mumbai Indians to a thrilling last-over victory against the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 match on Friday.
Amanjot's impressive performance earned her the Player of the Match title, as she also delivered outstanding bowling figures of 3-22 in three overs. Former Indian captain Mithali Raj commended the young talent for her confidence and composure under pressure, which ultimately helped MI secure the win.
“Having a reliable player like Amanjot Kaur, who has performed exceptionally well by hitting those two sixes, instills confidence. Additionally, with a 16-year-old like Kamalini Gunalan stepping in to score the winning runs in her debut season with Mumbai Indians, it’s a remarkable moment,” Mithali stated on Amul Cricket Live, JioHotstar.
“She believed in herself today. Spending time at the crease with Harmanpreet Kaur has allowed her to learn from her captain's big shots. Amanjot was determined to finish the match for Mumbai Indians,” she added.
Amanjot was supported by G Kamalini, who scored 11 not out, helping the team achieve a four-wicket victory.
MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt contributed with scores of 50 and 42, respectively, establishing a solid foundation for their target of 169. Amanjot and Kamalini ensured a successful finish to the innings.
“I feel extremely happy and find it challenging to express this feeling. I knew I could leverage my strengths when an offspinner came to bowl. Since Kanika and I play for the same domestic team, I was aware that I needed to remain until the end and maximize the 19th over because of my favorable matchup. My bowling role involves delivering stump-to-stump and varied deliveries. I am blessed and grateful,” Amanjot remarked after the match.
