Manchester, Jan 10 (NationPress) Manchester United is set to make a trip to London to take on Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup this Sunday. In preparation for his first-ever FA Cup match, head coach Ruben Amorim recognized the tournament's rich history and stated that the team must secure a win to elevate its reputation.
"I see what everybody sees. It is a really old competition with a lot of history. We won some cups and we want to continue. At this stage, we already have a really strong match we want to win and we want to improve the image and performance," Amorim expressed during a press conference.
As the reigning champions of the country's most esteemed cup tournament, Manchester United will aim to thwart Arsenal, who seek to replicate their 2-0 victory over United from December.
Although currently sitting in 13th place in the Premier League standings, Amorim hopes to witness the same passion from his squad as they displayed in their recent league encounter with Liverpool. Since Amorim's arrival in England last November, the Red Devils have secured just two wins from nine league matches, but have performed admirably against top teams, including a 2-2 draw with Liverpool and a 2-1 triumph over Manchester City in December.
Amorim emphasized that he is not placing league priorities over the cup, stating he is "living day-by-day".
"At this moment I am living day-by-day. What I am thinking is we have one week without any game, we had a day off and we could work with the team a bit."
"We have to play the best team and win and follow the last performance. I am not thinking in that way because we are in a difficult moment. My focus is more on our week. In the cup, you never know. Sometimes it is better to win this kind of game and then you have less time to rest. We just want to win this game and then we will think about the next one," he added.
