Guardiola: It’s Up to Man City to Consider De Bruyne’s Future
On January 3, in Manchester, Pep Guardiola emphasized that the responsibility of deciding Kevin de Bruyne’s future lies with the club, as the player is now free to negotiate with foreign teams regarding pre-contract agreements.

Manchester, Jan 3 (NationPress) As Kevin de Bruyne approaches the last six months of his contract with Manchester City, head coach Pep Guardiola has stated that the club needs to contemplate the Belgian’s future, since he is now permitted to consider his options and engage in discussions with international clubs about potential pre-contract agreements.

Since joining Manchester City in 2015, De Bruyne has experienced an extraordinary revival in his career. The Belgian midfielder has made 399 appearances for the club, netting 104 goals and supplying 171 assists, with 114 of those assists coming in the Premier League, making him the league's second-highest assist provider in history.

Guardiola was clear that the decision regarding De Bruyne’s future is a matter for the club and not for him to decide.

"It’s not my business," Pep stated during a press conference. "He has faced challenges in the past year and a half like many players, but when he is fit and consistent, he is a crucial player for us. A decisive player. The focus is on how he will perform for us until the season concludes, considering the club, his age, and other factors, so I believe the club needs to deliberate on it."

The four-time defending champions recently ended a five-match winless run with a 2-0 victory against Leicester City. Guardiola highlighted the significance of winning matches in relation to their confidence.

"We didn’t play at our best level in that game. We won, but football can be like that. Achieving results is beneficial for morale. We still need to find consistency in our results, but we have another opportunity to secure a win against West Ham, which could be advantageous moving forward," he added.

Currently, Manchester City holds the sixth position in the Premier League table, with nine victories, four draws, and six losses from their 19 matches played.
