Vadodara, March 6 (NationPress) A sold-out BCA Stadium was treated to a spectacular showcase by Sachin Tendulkar, as the cricketing legend turned back time with an extraordinary performance during a thrilling match of the International Masters League (IML) 2025 between India Masters and Australia Masters.
Tendulkar's explosive knock of 64 runs off just 33 balls included seven boundaries and four breathtaking sixes. His most memorable moment was a sensational straight six off bowler Ben Hilfenhaus, as he boldly confronted the Australian bowling attack.
This remarkable shot not only delighted the crowd but also transported the rival captain Shane Watson down memory lane, who later referred to it as the ‘shot of the night’. Reflecting on Tendulkar's masterful display, the former Australian cricketer remarked that witnessing the Indian icon's straight drive was a delightful experience, taking him back 15 years.
“Although we clinched the victory, I believe Sachin delivered the shot of the night. That straight drive instantly reminded me of the past. The way he launched that straight drive for six had all the players silently applauding. There were two memorable shots: that straight drive for six and a cover drive for six,” Watson commented post-match.
“You could see the joy on Sachin's face after that shot - he lowered his head as if to say, ‘I’ve been waiting to play that shot for ages’. It was a pleasure to be present on the field,” Watson added.
The ongoing inaugural season of IML has been offering fans an incredible chance to witness some of cricket’s finest players returning to the pitch. The final match is scheduled to occur in Raipur on March 16.
Watson further emphasized the tournament’s competitive spirit, stating: “It’s a blast to be out there again, playing against someone like Sachin Tendulkar and watching him perform tonight - it was exceptionally good. Having the opportunity to bat and play alongside many of my old friends from the Australian squad, and being part of this league is fantastic. The cricket quality has been remarkable, and if viewers at home aren’t entertained, I’m unsure what would entertain them.”
Despite captain Shane Watson (110*) and Ben Dunk (132*) scoring unbeaten centuries to lead the Australia Masters to a 95-run victory, it was Tendulkar’s elegant strokeplay - featuring many of his iconic shots - that captivated the audience and kept them on the edge of their seats.
While chasing a target of 270 runs, the India Masters were bowled out for 174, with Xavier Doherty achieving impressive figures of five wickets for 25 runs.
