Jamshedpur FC defeats Hyderabad FC 2-0 : Kalinga Super Cup: Jamshedpur FC advances to quarterfinals after defeating Hyderabad

Bhubaneswar, April 25 (NationPress) Jamshedpur FC maintained their impressive form with a decisive 2-0 victory against Hyderabad FC in their Round of 16 clash of the 2025 Kalinga Super Cup at the Kalinga Stadium on Thursday. Goals from Javier Siverio (39’ p) and Stephen Eze (64’) secured a straightforward progression for the Men of Steel, who will now compete against NorthEast United in the quarterfinals.

Having finished fifth in the Indian Super League (ISL) standings and narrowly missing the final due to a semi-final defeat by Mohun Bagan SG, Jamshedpur entered the tournament with significant aspirations and displayed a more composed and determined performance throughout the match. In contrast, Hyderabad FC, who faced a challenging ISL season and finished in twelfth place, entered the match as underdogs.

The match started cautiously, with both teams showing hesitance in the early stages. Hyderabad opted to defend deep, while Jamshedpur aimed to take control. As the game progressed, the combination of Jordan Murray, Javier Hernandez, and Javier Siverio began to effectively put pressure on the Hyderabad defense.

Despite dominating possession, Jamshedpur initially found it challenging to create clear opportunities, as Hyderabad defended compactly and effectively closed down spaces.

However, the deadlock was finally broken in the 39th minute during a well-executed play. Eze delivered a precise pass into the box for Ashutosh Mehta, who made a dynamic run down the right flank. As Mehta attempted to control the ball, he was fouled by Manoj Mohammad, leading the referee to award a penalty.

Siverio confidently converted the penalty, placing the ball past Arshdeep Singh and sending the Hyderabad keeper the wrong way, granting Jamshedpur a well-deserved lead heading into halftime. Just before the break, Jamshedpur almost added a second goal from a free-kick, but Hyderabad's defenders managed to hold firm with some valiant last-minute defending.

Hyderabad made several substitutions in the second half to regain control, but the momentum remained with Jamshedpur. The Men of Steel continued to dominate the midfield and displayed remarkable defensive discipline, rarely allowing Hyderabad any chances to penetrate.

The result was confirmed in the 64th minute when Jordan Murray, a constant threat, surged into the box and passed the ball to Stephen Eze. The tall defender made no mistakes from close range, tapping in to double Jamshedpur’s advantage.

From that point forward, Jamshedpur effectively managed the game, keeping Hyderabad at bay with relative ease. A well-structured Jamshedpur defense extinguished Hyderabad’s attempts to ignite a late comeback, and the match concluded with a comfortable 2-0 victory for Khalid Jamil's squad.
