New Delhi, March 16 (NationPress) The Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative garnered significant participation nationwide, with Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya spearheading the event at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad today.
Hosted by SAI Gandhinagar, the gathering included approximately 650 cyclists, among them members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Gujarat, Ahmedabad Medical Association, and MPs Hasmukhbhai Patel and Dineshbhai Makwana. The event was inaugurated by Paralympian athlete Bhavana Choudhary.
In the capital city, the Fit India movement gained momentum as Guinness World Record holder Rohtash Chaudhary, renowned as the Push-up Man of India, motivated participants at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium.
Rohtash, who holds the record for the most push-ups (one leg elevated while carrying a 27.2 kg pack) in one hour, joined 500 cycling enthusiasts, including doctors from the IMA, students from schools and colleges, members of Yogasana Bharat, and corporate professionals.
“Sundays on Cycle is an excellent initiative by Fit India. The excitement among participants was extraordinary, but I encourage everyone, especially the youth, to cycle not just on Sundays but every day,” Rohtash stated. He emphasized the necessity of fitness, noting, “India ranks third globally in obesity cases, only behind China and the USA. We must excel in development, not in obesity. Maintaining fitness is vital for our nation's progress.”
The IMA has organized Sundays on Cycle in 25 locations throughout the country. Dr. Piyush Jain, finance secretary of the Indian Medical Association, stressed the significance of fitness in combating lifestyle-related diseases. "IMA is fully dedicated to the Fit India movement because prevention is superior to treatment. It’s essential for everyone to adopt a healthy diet and engage in regular exercise. Cycling is an excellent full-body workout that also enhances mental health, making it a perfect exercise option," he remarked.
Since its inception in December 2024 under the guidance of Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle program has reached over 4,500 locations nationwide. The event is concurrently held at SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), and Khelo India Centres (KICs), reaffirming the government’s dedication to fostering fitness and an active lifestyle among its citizens.
