Dubai, Feb 11 (NationPress) Jomel Warrican from the West Indies has been honored as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for January 2025.
This recognition follows his remarkable performance in Pakistan, where he achieved his career-best bowling figures while leading the West Indies to their first Test victory in the Asian nation in 35 years.
This marks Warrican's first ICC Men’s Player of the Month award, standing out among two other exceptional spinners from the January matches, Noman Ali from Pakistan and Varun Chakravarthy from India.
Throughout the month, the 32-year-old bowler took a phenomenal total of 19 wickets across two Test matches, maintaining an impressive average of just 9.00. He is now the first West Indian to secure this award since fellow spinner Gudakesh Motie in May 2024.
In the opening Test held in Multan, Warrican recorded his best bowling figures of 10-101 and contributed an unbeaten 31 runs. However, Pakistan, led by Sajid Khan’s 9-115, managed to defeat the West Indies by 127 runs.
Warrican made a strong comeback in the subsequent Test at the same venue. He started by scoring a spirited 36 runs at No.11, followed by a stellar bowling performance, claiming four wickets in the first innings and providing his team with a slight lead.
His contributions included impressive figures of 4-43 and 5-27 along with 18 crucial runs in the second innings, leading to a historic 120-run victory and earning him the Player of the Series award.
“Winning this award is a true honor. One of my objectives for this year was to achieve my first five-for in Test cricket, but I never anticipated it would be this significant!”
“I promised my captain something extraordinary for this series, especially after my father, my greatest supporter, predicted an outstanding performance from me. Multan holds a special significance for me: not just because of the historic win for the West Indies against Pakistan away from home, but also for receiving this esteemed award,” expressed Warrican.
