Guwahati, March 6 (NationPress) Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Wednesday that Assam has emerged as a leader in economic empowerment for women, with the state government providing financial assistance to over 25 lakh women through its flagship initiative.

In a post on the social media platform X, CM Sarma expressed, "With various innovative and transformative schemes, Assam serves as a guiding light for the economic empowerment of women."

"Today, I assessed the strategy for distributing financial aid to more than 25 lakh women micro-entrepreneurs under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan. The distribution program will commence in Behali and subsequently expand throughout the state," he noted.

The Chief Minister also mentioned, "In addition to my other meetings today, we finalized allocations under #AssamBudget2025. The forthcoming Budget will mark a significant milestone in the state’s developmental trajectory."

Previously, Chief Minister Sarma reviewed district-specific progress on various aspects of the Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan and offered suggestions to resolve all issues, including expediting backend processes to ensure that Rs 10,000 is provided to the female beneficiaries under the scheme promptly.

He emphasized that the state government aims to empower women through this initiative, as successful implementation would fulfill the government’s goal of 'Atmanirbhar Nari'.

It is noteworthy that through the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, the state government plans to assist women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in becoming rural micro-entrepreneurs, enabling them to generate annual income through financial support as grant aid in the form of an entrepreneurship fund.

CM Sarma also acknowledged the readiness of district administrations concerning the timely disbursal of flood relief funds through Direct Benefit Transfer.

He instructed the District Collectors (DCs) to finalize the dates for the formal distribution of financial support to flood victims.

Additionally, the Chief Minister urged the DCs to coordinate with the Guardian Ministers to determine dates for delivering benefits under the Anundoram Borooah Cash Award Scheme, bicycle and scooty distribution, and microfinance loan waiver scheme.
