Gurugram, Feb 21 (NationPress) A specialized team from the cyber cell of the Gurugram Police has apprehended two suspects, including a bank official, for allegedly facilitating cybercriminals by providing them with bank accounts, according to an official report.

Priyanshu Diwan, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cybercrime), confirmed that the arrested individuals have been identified as Avinash Sharma and Aditya Chaturvedi, both hailing from Delhi.

As per police reports, a complaint was lodged at the Cyber Crime Police Station East in November 2024, where a victim claimed to have been swindled out of Rs 4.97 crore under the guise of investing in the stock market. Following the investigation, the police detained the suspects from various locations in Delhi for their alleged role in the fraud on Wednesday.

During questioning, the suspects revealed that Aditya Chaturvedi had been employed as a business development manager at IndusInd Bank in Gujranwala Town-2, Delhi, since 2023. The bank account implicated in the fraud was reportedly opened by Chaturvedi and sold to Avinash for Rs 25,000 to facilitate the scam. Chaturvedi charged Rs 10,000 for opening a savings account and Rs 50,000 for a current account, stated Sandeep Kumar, a spokesperson for Gurugram Police.

Senior police officials in Gurugram have stated that they are collaborating closely with various agencies and organizations to combat these fraudulent activities.

According to Priyanshu Diwan, ACP (Cybercrime), cyber fraudsters utilize various tactics to deceive individuals, including enticing them with promises of high returns on stock market investments, reducing electricity bills, selling inexpensive goods online, and engaging in sextortion via WhatsApp video calls. Other tactics include impersonating customs or police officers to intimidate victims into compliance.

The public has been urged to avoid engaging with dubious callers and to exercise caution when sharing personal information with strangers online, Diwan emphasized.

To date, Gurugram Police have arrested a total of 27 bank officials from different banks suspected of involvement in cyber fraud, as reported by ACP Diwan.
