He emphasized the necessity of discussions among faculties, educators, researchers, and students from Manipur University to delve into the fundamental issues underlying the ethnic strife in the region, following the inauguration of the Art and Culture building and an Open Gym at the university.

“We are currently facing a period filled with numerous challenges and adversities, yet it is crucial to keep the end goal in mind,” he remarked.

The Chief Minister elaborated on the pivotal role of educational institutions, like universities, in dispelling the confusion prevalent among the populace.

Addressing matters related to border fencing and other related topics, Biren Singh suggested that seminars or legal camps be organized to enhance public awareness and alleviate confusion.

He pointed out that a book titled Know Manipur has been published, underlining the necessity of educating individuals about their heritage and the historical context of the region.

“Our community will progress when individuals act with a sense of belonging and ownership towards their land,” he asserted.

“We possess talent, but we must act with a profound sense of belonging and ownership,” he reiterated.

Biren Singh also laid the foundation for a 33/11 KVA electric sub-station and a swimming pool within the Manipur University premises, stating that all educational institutions, including universities, schools, and colleges, are sacred places, and those who graduate from these institutions are vital in contributing to, guiding, and shaping society.

He acknowledged the significance of a university, affirming that the government has consistently prioritized issues or proposals related to the university. He recalled attending an event in the same auditorium alongside the Vice-President in May 2023 when unfortunate ethnic violence erupted in the state, and he prayed for the restoration of peace.

Moreover, he insisted that educational institutions should remain free from disturbances.

Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, in his address, noted that due to the ongoing support from both the state and central governments, the university has progressed from being a JNU PG Centre to a fully operational Central University. Presently, the university comprises 44 departments and 119 affiliated colleges, with approximately 6,900 students enrolled in various departments and 68,000 students across different affiliated colleges.
