New Delhi, Feb 8 (NationPress) In a tightly fought contest for the Malviya Nagar Assembly seat, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Satish Upadhyay triumphed over Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Somnath Bharti by a margin of 2,131 votes, as reported by the Election Commission of India.

Upon his victory, Upadhyay expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the residents of Malviya Nagar and attributed the success to the leadership and vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This victory signifies a notable change in the constituency, which had been a stronghold of AAP in recent years.

In remarks to IANS, Upadhyay stated, “PM Modi's vision has paved the way for this victory, and this win aligns with his aspiration for Viksit Bharat (Developed India). We will strive to transform Viksit Delhi into reality.”

“I am thankful to the inhabitants of Malviya Nagar for their trust in me. This achievement is a result of the relentless dedication of our party activists,” he further elaborated.

Upadhyay, a seasoned politician who previously held the position of Delhi BJP president from 2014 to 2016, was questioned about Arvind Kejriwal’s earlier assertions that PM Modi could never defeat AAP during his lifetime.

To this, Upadhyay dismissed the comment, stating, “It is time for celebration. Let’s not squander time discussing deceivers and frauds.”

The outcome in Malviya Nagar is perceived as a setback for AAP, which has encountered difficulties amid legal issues involving its leadership. With BJP making considerable advancements in the national capital, Upadhyay’s victory strengthens the party’s aim to broaden its presence in Delhi’s Assembly constituencies.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a majority in Delhi's Assembly elections, winning 48 out of 70 seats, while AAP trails with 22 seats. These results indicate a significant political transformation in Delhi, with BJP making substantial headway in AAP’s stronghold.
