Mumbai, Feb 5 (NationPress) It was an unforgettable evening in Chennai on Wednesday as Grammy winners took to the stage. The renowned English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and acclaimed music composer A. R. Rahman united their talents to delight the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
The duo showcased a remarkable mash-up of ‘Shape of You’ and ‘Urvashi’, combining the rhythm of the former with the vocals of the latter, as Rahman took the microphone. While Sheeran strummed his guitar, Rahman lent his voice to the performance.
Opening for Ed Sheeran in Chennai was playback singer Jonita Gandhi, celebrated for her tracks like ‘Gilehriyaan’, ‘What Jhumka’, and ‘Dil Ka Telephone’.
Reflecting on her performance, Jonita expressed, “I’ve been a long-time admirer of Ed! I have even covered some of his songs previously. I truly appreciate his versatility as he seamlessly transitions across various genres while remaining authentic, which I find incredibly admirable.”
She added, “I was quite disheartened to miss his last show in Mumbai due to another commitment, but I’m thrilled to see him perform live and even more excited to share the stage with him in Chennai. I can’t wait!”
Previously, Ed Sheeran had performed alongside Punjabi sensation Diljit Dosanjh in Mumbai last year. During that event, Diljit shared a video on Instagram capturing his interaction with the ‘Shape of You’ artist at Mahalaxmi Racecourse.
In the video, the two appeared to connect well while chatting at the venue’s 360-degree stage. Diljit sported a black t-shirt, denim jacket, and jeans, while Ed opted for a white t-shirt and black shorts to combat the summer heat.
Diljit captioned the video, “ONE LOVE”.
The + - = ÷ x Tour in Chennai was presented by AEG Presents Asia and BookMyShow Live.
