Chennai, Feb 6 (NationPress) A 13-year-old girl from a government school in Bargur, Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, has alleged that three of her teachers committed rape against her and is now undergoing psychological counseling, as confirmed by the district administration.
The District Collector of Krishnagiri, Dhinesh Kumar, stated that the girl is receiving mental health support from qualified psychiatrists and psychologists.
The alleged incident, which occurred in the first week of January, was only brought to light on February 3, when school staff visited the girl’s residence due to her extended absence from school.
During this visit, the girl revealed the sexual assault, which allegedly took place within a toilet on the school premises.
In response to her disclosure, the headmistress of the school and the block education officer lodged a complaint, resulting in the arrest of the three implicated teachers on February 4.
Superintendent of Police P. Thangadurai mentioned that the police, together with the Child Welfare Committee, visited the girl at her home before escorting her to a One-Stop Centre at Krishnagiri Government Medical College Hospital for further assistance.
The accused teachers have denied the allegations but have been suspended while an investigation is ongoing.
An initial internal review by the School Education Department found no other complaints against the teachers from students or staff.
This incident has led to widespread outrage, with AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) expressing his dismay.
In a post on social media, he criticized the DMK government for failing to protect students in government schools and urged Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to take full accountability for the incident.
He stated, “Girls are not safe in government schools and colleges.”
Palaniswami further rebuked CM Stalin for accusing him of inciting fear, questioning what DMK ministers have to say about the apparent lack of safety in educational institutions.
BJP Tamil Nadu state president K. Annamalai also condemned the incident, noting that sexual assault on women and girls has become a disturbing reality in Tamil Nadu.
He referenced a recent report about an assault on an 18-year-old girl in a moving autorickshaw just days prior.
