New Delhi, March 14 (NationPress) Former West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Denesh Ramdin asserts that Rishabh Pant is a distinctive keeper-batter in today's cricketing landscape, highlighting the exceptional manner in which he bats and accumulates runs.
Pant, who was not utilized in the Indian squad that triumphed in the 2025 Champions Trophy, is set to lead the Lucknow Super Giants as captain in the upcoming IPL 2025, commencing on March 22. "Clearly, Rishabh Pant is one—he's distinctive in how he bats and gathers runs. There's a young talent from Australia, Josh Inglis—he performed admirably in the Champions Trophy. Tom Banton is also among the top contenders. Numerous young keepers are emerging," Ramdin stated.
“Historically, wicketkeepers were mainly just that—keepers. However, cricket has transformed. The responsibilities of a keeper-batter have broadened, starting with players like Adam Gilchrist, who not only kept but also opened the batting with great success. Others, such as Quinton de Kock, Brendon McCullum, and the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni, have significantly contributed to the evolution of the modern wicketkeeper's role," Ramdin remarked prior to the IPL semi-final clash between Sri Lanka Masters and West Indies Masters in Raipur.
He also commented on Sunil Narine's potential performance in IPL 2025 for the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders. "Evidently, Narine was the MVP last season, leading his team to victory. He will approach the new season with considerable confidence, although each season presents fresh challenges and a different team dynamic," he noted.
“Without a doubt, Sunil, though not very vocal, communicates extensively through his performances with both bat and ball," he added.
Ramdin also reminisced about how the festival of Holi is celebrated by the Indian diaspora in Trinidad and Tobago. "It closely resembles the celebrations in India. When you visit the Savannahs, there are songs playing, Holi powder being shared, and everyone enjoying a great time together."
