London, Feb 2 (NationPress) Tottenham Hotspur has secured the services of Kevin Danso on a season-long loan deal with an obligation to make the transfer permanent from RC Lens, a club in Ligue 1. The Austrian defender will don the number four jersey.
The North London side had to navigate the January transfer window due to an injury crisis, with defenders Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin sidelined, causing the Ange Postecoglou team to drop to 15th place in the Premier League.
Kevin Danso was born in Voitsberg, Austria, and relocated to England at the age of six. He began his early career with Reading and MK Dons before moving to Germany to join FC Augsburg in January 2014 for further development.
After advancing through the youth ranks at FC Augsburg, he made his first-team debut in March 2017, making history as the youngest player ever to play for the club in a league match. He accumulated 44 senior appearances in all competitions, netting three goals.
In August 2019, he signed with Southampton on a season-long loan, where he featured in 10 matches across all competitions during the 2019/20 season.
Upon returning to FC Augsburg after his stint in the south, he went on loan to Fortuna Dusseldorf for the subsequent season, where he clocked up 33 appearances and scored twice.
This commanding centre-back joined RC Lens in August 2021, and his impressive second season earned him a spot in the Ligue 1 team of the year after contributing to the French club's second-place finish, which qualified them for the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League group stage.
During his tenure at RC Lens, Kevin made 128 appearances and scored four goals across all competitions.
On the international front, he has represented Austria at various age levels, making his senior debut in September 2017. To date, he has earned 24 caps for his national team and participated in Euro 2024.
