Agartala, Jan 10 (NationPress) An Amendment Bill was introduced in the Tripura Assembly on Friday, suggesting a salary increase of 45 to 50 percent for Ministers, MLAs, and former lawmakers.
The ninth amendment bill concerning Salaries, Allowances, Pensions, and other benefits for Ministers, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Leader of the Opposition, and Chief Whip proposes significant raises for the Chief Minister, Ministers, MLAs, and former legislators.
As per the bill presented by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath, the Chief Minister's salary is set to rise to Rs 97,000, while the salaries of the Deputy Chief Minister, Ministers, Assembly Speaker, and Leader of Opposition are proposed to be between Rs 94,000 and Rs 96,000.
Furthermore, the bill suggests increasing the salary of MLAs to Rs 93,000.
In addition to salaries, the Chief Minister, Ministers, Assembly Speaker, Leader of Opposition, and MLAs receive several other allowances, such as sumptuary allowance, hospitality allowance, telephone allowance, and house rent allowance.
The proposed increases in pensions and family pensions for former MLAs are to rise to Rs 66,000 and Rs 48,000 from Rs 34,500 and Rs 25,000, respectively.
This ninth Amendment Bill also proposes that all retirement benefits, including pensions, be granted to all MLAs who have served even for a single day.
Previously, as per the last amendment in 2022 to the Salaries, Allowances, Pensions, and Other Benefits Act, an MLA qualified for retirement benefits, including a pension, only if they served for at least four-and-a-half years.
The Winter Session of the Tripura Assembly commenced on Friday and will run until January 15. State Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu delivered his customary address to the House, marking the first session of the new year (2025).
In his address, the Governor emphasized the achievements and vision of the state government, outlining a roadmap for future governance.
