During his speech at the 'North East Trade and Investment' roadshow in Chennai, organized by the DoNER Ministry, he extended an invitation to Chennai to participate in the transformative journey of the region as it aims to establish itself as a leading driver of India's growth.
The roadshow aimed to draw investment for the development of the northeast, generating significant interest among potential investors eager to explore opportunities in the states.
Scindia remarked, 'Each of the eight states in the northeast possesses unique strengths, resources, and opportunities, rendering this region an essential component of India’s growth narrative. '
With its rich cultural diversity, stunning natural beauty, and strategic positioning, the region is poised to become one of the country’s foremost economic powerhouses, he noted.
The minister also emphasized the potential of northeast states across various sectors, including tourism and hospitality, agriculture and allied industries, healthcare, entertainment and sports, infrastructure and logistics, IT and ITeS, textiles, handloom and handicrafts, and energy.
He reassured investors that the region’s youth, high literacy rates, and abundant natural resources render it an attractive investment destination.
The minister pointed out that the northeast region holds 38 percent of the country’s bamboo resources, presenting a substantial opportunity for the furniture industry in Chennai.
Additionally, the region's extensive untapped hydrocarbon reserves and hydropower potential remain to be fully realized.
The Union Budget 2025-26 has laid a robust foundation for the socio-economic transformation of Assam and the larger northeast, featuring the announcement of a new urea plant in Assam's Namrup with an annual capacity of 12.7 lakh tonnes.
The PM Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana is set to benefit 17 million farmers across 100 low-productivity districts, thereby promoting agricultural growth and enhancing storage at the panchayat level.
The expansion of the UDAN scheme is expected to improve regional connectivity with 120 new destinations, benefiting 4 crore passengers.
