New Delhi, Jan 17 (NationPress) The newly launched Sanchar Saathi mobile application is aimed at providing a secure environment for all its users, as stated by Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday.

This user-friendly platform is designed to strengthen telecom security and empower citizens.

“This initiative not only opens up opportunities but also guarantees a secure environment for all users,” Scindia remarked during the app's launch.

With over 90 crore smartphone users in India, the Sanchar Saathi app aims to uphold the security, safety, and trustworthiness of telecom networks for everyone.

Available on both Android and iOS, the app equips users with essential tools to protect their telecom resources and fight against telecom fraud.

Through the app, users can report suspicious calls and messages directly from their mobile logs. Additionally, citizens can oversee and manage all mobile connections registered under their name, preventing any unauthorized use.

In cases where mobile devices are misplaced or stolen, the app facilitates quick blocking, tracking, and recovery. It also provides a simple method to confirm the authenticity of mobile devices, ensuring users purchase legitimate products.

The Sanchar Saathi initiative is a part of several citizen-focused projects launched by the Department of Telecom (DoT).

Since its launch in May 2023, the Sanchar Saathi Portal has made remarkable progress in tackling cyber fraud, receiving over 9 crore visits and leading to the disconnection of 2.75 crore fraudulent mobile connections.

Moreover, it has successfully recovered more than 25 lakh lost or stolen devices. In addition, 12.38 lakh WhatsApp accounts associated with cybercrimes have been deactivated, and 11.6 lakh mule bank accounts have been frozen to thwart financial fraud.

During the event, Scindia also introduced the National Broadband Mission (NBM) 2.0 and inaugurated the Intra Circle Roaming facility at DBN-funded 4G mobile sites.

He noted that the success of the National Broadband Mission has significantly enhanced digital banking, connecting “over 531 million Indians to electronic banking.” The main aim of NBM 2.0 is to reach the remaining 1.7 lakh villages across the nation and achieve ambitious targets, as stated by the Union Minister.

“Our objective is to ensure that at least 60 out of every 100 rural households have access to broadband connectivity. Furthermore, we aspire to achieve a minimum fixed broadband download speed of 100 Mbps, thereby establishing a robust digital infrastructure for rural India,” he added.

The Intra Circle Roaming at DBN-funded 4G mobile sites will allow various telecom service providers to operate from the same tower, ensuring a seamless service experience for users.
