New Delhi, Jan 17 (NationPress) The newly launched Sanchar Saathi mobile application will provide a secure environment for all users, stated Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday.
This app is a user-friendly platform aimed at enhancing telecom security and empowering the citizenry.
“This initiative not only opens doors to opportunities but also guarantees a secure environment for all users,” remarked Scindia during the app's launch.
With more than 90 crore smartphone users in India, the Sanchar Saathi app is dedicated to ensuring the security, safety, and trustworthiness of telecom networks for the populace.
Available on both Android and iOS, the app equips users with essential tools to safeguard their telecom resources and tackle telecom fraud.
With this innovative app, users can report suspicious calls and SMS directly from their mobile phone logs. Citizens can also identify and manage all mobile connections registered in their name, ensuring no unauthorized usage occurs.
Moreover, in cases of lost or stolen devices, the app facilitates quick blockage, tracing, and recovery. It also provides a simple method to verify the authenticity of mobile handsets, ensuring users purchase genuine devices.
The Sanchar Saathi initiative is part of various citizen-centric initiatives by the Department of Telecom (DoT).
Since its launch in May 2023, the Sanchar Saathi Portal has made notable progress in fighting cyber fraud, recording over 9 crore visits and disconnecting 2.75 crore fraudulent mobile connections.
Additionally, it has secured more than 25 lakh lost or stolen devices. Furthermore, 12.38 lakh WhatsApp accounts associated with cybercrimes have been disabled, and 11.6 lakh mule bank accounts have been frozen to thwart financial fraud.
At the same event, Scindia also introduced National Broadband Mission (NBM) 2.0 and inaugurated the Intra Circle Roaming facility at DBN-funded 4G mobile sites.
He noted that the success of the National Broadband Mission has led to a surge in digital banking, connecting “over 531 million Indians to electronic banking.” The key aim of NBM 2.0 is to connect the remaining 1.7 lakh villages across the nation and achieve ambitious goals, as stated by the Union Minister.
“Our objective is to ensure that at least 60 out of every 100 rural households have access to broadband connectivity. Additionally, we aspire to attain a minimum fixed broadband download speed of 100 Mbps, thereby establishing a robust digital infrastructure for rural India,” he added.
The Intra Circle Roaming at DBN-funded 4G Mobile sites will enable multiple telecom service providers to offer services from the same tower, ensuring a seamless service experience for subscribers.
