Los Angeles, Jan 22 (NationPress) Renowned Hollywood actress Judi Dench has bravely shared details about her ongoing struggle with her eyesight, indicating that her vision loss has progressed to a point where she requires assistance whenever she steps outside her home.
The 90-year-old star first disclosed her battle with macular degeneration in 2012, a condition that leads to irreversible and swift loss of central vision and is the leading cause of vision impairment in individuals over 50, as reported by femalefirst.co.uk.
In a recent episode of Trinny Woodall’s ‘Fearless’ podcast, she provided a sobering update regarding her health.
Dench remarked, “Someone will always accompany me. I have to now because I can't see, and I might walk into something or trip. I feel anxious before attending events. I’m not adept at being alone anymore, nor would I be now. Thankfully, I don’t have to be as I pretend I can see.”
At a 2021 event for the Vision Foundation in London, Dench discussed her struggle with reading scripts due to her rapidly diminishing eyesight.
She explained, “You discover a way to navigate and overcome the challenges that are particularly difficult. I’ve had to adapt my method for learning lines, which now involves my wonderful friends repeating them to me repeatedly.”
“Thus, I have to memorize through repetition, and I sincerely hope that people won’t notice too much if I completely botch my lines!”
Dench also spoke on ‘The Graham Norton Show’ about her difficulties memorizing lines as she once relied on her photographic memory.
She added, “I need to find a device that not only teaches me my lines but also indicates where they are on the page. I previously found it very easy to memorize lines and could recite the entire ‘Twelfth Night’ right now.”
