Los Angeles, March 16 (NationPress) The controversial rapper Kanye West appears to have joined forces with the disgraced artist Sean “Diddy” Combs for his latest release.
Kanye has been one of the few prominent figures to vocally support Diddy, who is currently facing multiple charges related to sexual assault, as reported by ‘Variety’.
This past Saturday, amidst a series of familiar hateful social media posts, Kanye unveiled a new track that he asserts features Combs, alongside his son Christian ‘King’ Combs, West’s daughter North, and singer Jasmine Williams.
According to ‘Variety’, the song titled ‘Lonely Roads Still Go to Sunshine’ showcases a typical West beat with synthesizer elements, beginning with a conversation allegedly between West and Combs, who is speaking from prison.
“I wanna just thank you so much for just taking care of my kids, man,” a voice resembling Diddy’s states. “Ain’t nobody reach out to them, ain’t nobody call them.”
“Absolutely, I love you so much man,” Kanye West responds. “You raised me. Even when I ain’t know you, know what I’m saying?” A singer, likely Williams, provides the hook, “When you see me shining, then you see the light.”
Diddy and North West rap on the track. Reports from TMZ and screenshots of various messages shared by West indicate that Kim Kardashian, West’s ex-wife and North’s mother, attempted to legally block the song's release.
Although West reportedly claimed he wouldn’t release the song, dropping a track via X (formerly known as Twitter) is unusual, and considering the confusion surrounding the platform's rules since it was acquired by Elon Musk in 2022, the legal aspects of the song’s release may be unclear.
Additionally, the song includes lyrical nods to the Lox’s 1998 hit ‘Money Power Respect’, along with a snippet of rapper Lil’ Kim’s vocals from that track. While West has previously released songs with unlicensed samples, this particular use may face fewer legal issues since the Lox track was published under Combs’ Bad Boy Records.
Nonetheless, a publishing complication may arise, as Diddy transferred those rights to several former Bad Boy artists in 2023, just before the surge of sexual assault allegations.
