The 77-year-old actress began her acting journey at the age of 11 with “Lajwanti” in 1958, followed by “Sone Ki Chidiya” the same year. Mumtaz was initially typecast as a “stunt film heroine,” with titles like “Faulad” in 1963 and “Daku Mangal Singh” in 1966, which hindered her career.
She later starred in films such as “Ram Aur Shyam,” “Mere Hamdam Mere Dost,” and “Brahmachari.”
Mumtaz achieved her breakthrough role in “Do Raaste” in 1969, subsequently establishing herself as one of the top actresses with films like “Bandhan,” “Aadmi Aur Insaan,” “Sachaa Jhutha,” “Khilona,” “Hare Rama Hare Krishna,” “Apna Desh,” “Loafer,” “Roti,” and “Nagin.”
After a 13-year hiatus, she made her last film appearance in the 1990 movie “Aandhiyan,” which revolves around the love story of Shakuntala and Dushyant, facing familial disapproval due to their differing social statuses.
The film depicts Dushyant's dilemma between his loyalty to his wife and his father.
Mumtaz wed businessman Mayur Madhvani in 1974, and they are parents to two daughters, one of whom, Natasha, married Fardeen Khan, son of Feroz Khan, in 2006.
